What the online renewal accepts
Online renewal takes a JPG, PNG or HEIC file between 54 KB and 10 MB. It states no pixel size, so the tool makes a sharp 1200 × 1200 pixel square with the head at the same 50–69% of the height used for printed passport photos.
The background must be white or off-white, glasses are not allowed, and the State Department rejects edited or AI-generated photos. The white-background option only replaces the wall behind you; your face is left as it was taken.
How to use it
- Choose your form; its sizes appear and can be changed.
- Add a clear phone photo of your face and drag it into the oval.
- Optionally make the background white, or add your name and date.
- Press Make photo, check the ticks and download. Do the same for the signature.
Frequently asked questions
What file size does the online renewal accept?
From 54 KB up to 10 MB, as JPG, PNG or HEIC.
Can I take the photo at home?
Yes, if it meets the rules: plain white or off-white background, even light, no glasses, looking straight at the camera.
Will the tool change my face?
No. It crops, can whiten the background, and saves the file. Retouching is not allowed and the tool does none.
Is my photo uploaded to Toololo?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
