MP4 to MP3, free and private

Sometimes the sound is the part you want: a lecture you recorded on your phone, an interview, a voice note that was saved as a video, or the music from your own edit. This tool saves the audio from a video file as an MP3 that plays in any music app or car stereo.

It works on video files you already have. The conversion runs in your browser, so the file is never uploaded and there is no length limit beyond your device's memory.

How it works

  1. Add a video file: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV or M4V.
  2. Pick the audio quality. 192 kbps suits almost everything.
  3. Press Convert to MP3.
  4. Listen to the preview and download the MP3.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this with YouTube or Instagram links?

No. This tool works with video files on your device. Downloading from those platforms is against their terms. For your own uploads, both platforms let you download your original file from your account.

Which quality should I choose?

192 kbps sounds the same as the source for speech and most music. Choose 320 kbps only if the original had high-quality audio; choose 128 kbps for the smallest file.

Why did it fail?

Most often the video has no sound track at all, for example a screen recording made without audio. The message under the button tells you when that is the case.

Is my file uploaded?

No. FFmpeg runs inside this page, and the audio is created on your device.
