Reduce PDF Size in KB

Upload forms state a limit such as 100 KB or 200 KB and reject anything bigger. Type that number in Maximum size: the tool tries light compression first and moves to stronger levels only while the file is still too big, so you get the best quality that is still accepted. There is nothing to convert from MB to KB by hand: type the limit in KB, whatever size your file is now.

Text, links and fonts stay real, selectable text with Best compression. If a document cannot reach the limit, remove pages you do not need with Delete PDF Pages, or split it with Split PDF.

How to compress a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF onto the box, or click to choose it.
  2. Pick a level, or choose Target size and type the size you need.
  3. Press Compress PDF. The result shows the size before and after.
  4. Download the smaller PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce a PDF to a specific size in KB?

Type the size in Maximum size (for example 200), drop the PDF and press Compress PDF. The result shows the new size, and a note if it could not get under the limit.

How do I convert a PDF from MB to KB?

You do not need to convert anything: type the limit in KB and compress. 1 MB is 1000 or 1024 KB depending on the site, so a target of 1000 KB fits either way.

Will the text still be selectable?

Yes with Best compression: text, links and fonts stay real text, only images are re-encoded. On this device, Recommended and Extreme turn pages into images for a bigger reduction, so text is no longer selectable there.

Is my PDF safe? Is it stored?

With Best compression, your PDF travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our server in the EU, is compressed by Ghostscript, sent straight back and deleted at once. It is not stored, copied, logged or looked at. If you prefer that the file never leaves your computer, choose On this device.
