Resize PDF

When a website says your PDF is too large, it needs a smaller file, not smaller pages. This tool resizes the PDF file itself: it re-saves the images inside at a sensible resolution, removes duplicate and unused data and packs everything tightly, while text, links and fonts stay real, selectable text.

Type the limit you were given in Maximum size, in KB (1 MB is 1000 KB). The tool tries light compression first and goes stronger only while the file is still too big, so you get the best quality that fits. For a scan that will not get small enough, remove pages you do not need with Delete PDF Pages or split it with Split PDF.

How to compress a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF onto the box, or click to choose it.
  2. Pick a level, or choose Target size and type the size you need.
  3. Press Compress PDF. The result shows the size before and after.
  4. Download the smaller PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize a PDF file?

Type the size you need in Maximum size, for example 200 for 200 KB, drop the PDF and press Compress PDF. The result shows the new size, and a note if it could not get under the limit.

How do I resize a PDF from MB to KB?

Type the limit in KB and compress; there is nothing to convert by hand. 1 MB is 1000 or 1024 KB depending on the site, so a target of 1000 KB fits either way.

Will resizing make my PDF blurry?

Text stays sharp because it is kept as real text. Photos and scanned pages are re-saved at a lower resolution; at the Recommended level they look the same on screen. Very small limits on long scans can soften them, so check the result before you upload.

Is my PDF safe? Is it stored?

With Best compression, your PDF travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our server in the EU, is compressed by Ghostscript, sent straight back and deleted at once. It is not stored, copied, logged or looked at. If you prefer that the file never leaves your computer, choose On this device.
