What GOV.UK asks for

A digital passport photo must be at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, between 50 KB and 10 MB, and taken in the last month. The tool makes 1200 × 1500 pixels, the same 4 : 5 shape, with the head at the proportions of the printed photo (29–34 mm of 45 mm).

The background should be plain and light-coloured, with no shadows. You should be alone in the photo, with a neutral expression and your mouth closed. Tick "Make the background plain white" if the wall behind you is patterned or dark.

How to use it

  1. Choose your form; its sizes appear and can be changed.
  2. Add a clear phone photo of your face and drag it into the oval.
  3. Optionally make the background white, or add your name and date.
  4. Press Make photo, check the ticks and download. Do the same for the signature.
