About PDF to Text
Get the words out of a PDF as plain text: to paste into an email, a form, a translator or an AI tool, or to search and reuse them. The text of every page is put back into lines in reading order and saved as a .txt file.
Add one PDF or many. The text appears on the page to copy, and each PDF downloads as its own TXT file. Everything runs in your browser, so your PDFs are never uploaded.
How to use it
- Choose or drop one or more PDFs.
- Choose whether to mark where each page starts.
- Press Extract text.
- Copy the text, or download the TXT files.
Good to know
- This reads the text that is stored in the PDF. A scanned PDF is a picture of a page and has no stored text: use OCR PDF for those.
- Columns are read across the page line by line, so text in two columns may need small edits.
- The TXT file is UTF-8, so every language and symbol is kept.
- For an editable document with formatting, use PDF to Word.
Questions
How do I extract text from a PDF?
Add the PDF and press Extract text. The text appears on the page, ready to copy, and downloads as a .txt file.
Why is the text empty?
The PDF is probably a scan, which stores only a picture of each page. Use OCR PDF, which reads the letters in the picture.
Can I convert several PDFs at once?
Yes. Add up to 20 PDFs; each one becomes its own TXT file, and all the text is shown together on the page.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The text is extracted in this page on your own device.
