About Image to Text
Copy the words out of a photo, a screenshot, a scanned page, a receipt or a notice instead of typing them by hand. The tool reads the letters in the image with OCR (optical character recognition) and gives you text you can edit, copy and save.
Choose the language of the text: more than 40 are supported, from English, Spanish and Portuguese to Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Indonesian, Thai, Chinese and Japanese. Images that mix a local language with English are read in both. Add several images at once or paste a screenshot. The recognition runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded.
How to use it
- Choose, drop or paste one or more images (JPG, PNG or WebP).
- Select the language of the text.
- Press Extract text and wait a few seconds per image.
- Edit the text if needed, then copy it or save it as TXT or Word (DOCX).
Good to know
- The language data downloads the first time you use a language, then your browser keeps it, so the next time is faster.
- Clear, straight, well-lit photos of printed text give the best result. Handwriting is not read reliably.
- With several images, the text of each one comes under its file name.
- For a scanned PDF, use OCR PDF, which reads every page.
Questions
How do I copy text from an image?
Add the image, choose the language of the text and press Extract text. The text appears on the page: press Copy text, or save it as a TXT or Word file.
Which languages can it read?
More than 40 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Indonesian, Malay, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, Turkish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Can I extract text from a screenshot?
Yes. Take the screenshot, then press Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on a Mac) on this page to paste it, or save it and add the file.
