What is a HEIC file?

Why does my HEIC file fail to convert?

A small number of HEIC files use variants that browsers cannot decode — most often depth-map or Live Photo sidecar files rather than the picture itself. If one photo fails, the rest of the batch still converts, and the failed file is marked in the list.
